Seattle Queer Film Festival

Thursday, 10 October 2019 until Sunday, 20 October 2019

The Seattle Queer Film Festival, a program of Three Dollar Bill Cinema, has been held annually in October since 1996. The festival has grown into the largest event of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, gaining industry and audience recognition for showcasing the latest and greatest in queer film, from major motion picture premieres to emerging talent. An important venue in the Seattle film scene—and the social event of the season—the festival provides unique opportunities for visiting and local filmmakers to engage and entertain over 10,000 attendees.

OUR MISSION
Three Dollar Bill Cinema enriches, strengthens, and connects diverse communities by supporting queer film and by producing SQFF and other events.

The competition jury will select films from four categories to receive cash awards: Best Feature Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Short Film, and Most Innovative Short Film. Audience awards voted on by festival attendees will be given for Favorite Narrative Feature, Favorite Documentary Feature, Favorite Gay Short Film, Favorite Lesbian Short Film, Favorite Transgender Film, and Favorite Local Film.

GUIDELINES
1- Submit online via FilmFreeway.
2- If your work is accepted, you will be notified by September 13, 2019. Receipt of your exhibition tape or print is required by September 9, 2019. We will return your exhibition tape or print (if not being forwarded to another destination) by November 8, 2019.
5- Inbound shipments must be paid by the submitter, distributor, or filmmaker. Return shipment of exhibition materials will be paid by the festival. Any additional fees associated with shipping must be paid by the recipient. Three Dollar Bill Cinema accepts no responsibility for loss or damage of entries during shipment to or from the festival.
6- Once a film is submitted, it may not be withdrawn.
7- If a rough cut is submitted for review and your film is accepted to the festival, you must inform us of any major changes made to the film before an exhibition copy is received.
7- Due to the large number of entries, we cannot return physical preview screeners. Accepted titles will be kept in our archive.

I permit Three Dollar Bill Cinema to retain a DVD or digital copy of this work for a non-circulating Festival archive. I give Three Dollar Bill Cinema permission to use up to 3 minutes of footage or photographic stills from the work for broadcast, web publication or other promotional purposes. Three Dollar Bill Cinema must be notified in writing of any press or photo restrictions. I give Three Dollar Bill Cinema permission to make DVD copies of the work for press purposes. Three Dollar Bill Cinema must be notified in writing of any press restrictions. If accepted to the Festival, I agree to not have a full copy of the film available online prior to the Three Dollar Bill Cinema screening. I am legally authorized to enter this film in TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival and agree that, if accepted, an acceptable exhibition format will be made available for screening during the Festival. If a rough cut was submitted for review, I will inform Three Dollar Bill Cinema of any major changes made to the film before their receipt of an exhibition copy of the film. It’s been 50 years since the untimely death of diva and gay icon Judy Garland in June of 1969. But she is still a star to many a queer kid, whether through the timeless THE WIZARD OF OZ, emotional ballads sung with her famous intensity, or the many drag queens that still belt out her powerful songs. 

BEAUTY AND DECAY

In this fascinating and transporting documentary, Sven Marquardt, best known as a heavily tattooed and pierced queer bouncer at Berlin’s most famous and debaucherous techno club but also an accomplished photographer and sensitive soul, reunites with Dominique Hollenstein and Robert Paris, two old friends from the colorful East Berlin underground of the 1980s.

BILLIE AND EMMA

Set in the mid-’90s, this coming-of-age drama tells the story of Billie, a troublemaker from Manila, who finds herself exiled to remote San Isidro to live with her single aunt, the town’s religion teacher.

Shedding light on a topic that is too often misunderstood, NO BOX FOR ME unveils the complex and far-reaching issues faced by intersex people, who are born with variations in their sex characteristics that often cause Western doctors to surgically assign a gender during infancy.

A LUV TALE: THE SERIES

In this stylish and clever six-part series, based on writer-creator Sidra Smith’s 1999 award-winning romantic comedy and directed by Kay Oyegun (This Is Us), four gorgeous queer women of color in Harlem try to navigate careers, family, friendships, and love in a world of art and music.

BENJAMIN

In writer-director-comedian Simon Amstell’s witty and bittersweet drama-comedy about love, art, and friendship, twentysomething filmmaker Benjamin (Colin Morgan, The Fall; THE HAPPY PRINCE, SQFF 2018), finds himself falling for Noah, a charming French musician, in the midst of trying to launch his second feature film.

NO DOMINION: THE IAN HORVATH STORY

This documentary salutes the life and accomplishments of the late dance champion and AIDS activist Ian (Ernie) Horvath.

Freddy is a 30-year-old gay transman—who decides to carry his own child. Director Jeanie Finlay (ORION: THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING) documents his audacious path to fatherhood.

THE CHUNTÁ

In the small Mexican town of Chiapa de Corzo, two rival gender-bending dance groups prepare for the annual Fiesta Grande, a vibrant party where men transform into women and become what’s known as the Chuntá.
